The lectionary Gospel readings for April 2026 (Year A) include some of the stories of Jesus’ resurrection appearances. There is also Good Shepherd Sunday near the end of the month. The First Lesson for the Season of Easter is an opportunity to visit the earliest sermons of Peter. They are short and powerful, laying out doctrine and how the early church connected the events of Jesus with the Messianic hopes and longings of the Hebrew community. So, the preacher is spoiled for choice. I tend to preach the Gospel lesson, and can imagine an extended sermon series on the Walk to Emmaus:
Week
Theme
Image of Christ
Week 1
Christ walks with us in disappointment
Companion on the road
Week 2
Christ opens scripture and heart
Teacher of the Word
Week 3
Christ is revealed in the table and sends us
Host of the table
Also in April, Bishop Shelton will be with us for Youth Service Day on April 12 at Camp Chestnut Ridge (3-7 pm). This is an opportunity for us to Serve Joyfully! I encourage you to join your youth at this event.
I’m praying that the one who is raised from the dead will be known in deeper ways as you offer this life-transforming message to others. He rose for you, too.
Peace,
Claire
