- New Appointment! – Rev. Jarrod Davis has been appointed to a new, full-time role as Creation Care Ministries Coordinator for the North Carolina and Western North Carolina Conferences.
- It passed! – The resolution submitted at Annual Conference 2023 by the Conference Creation Care Team urging every local church to create or strengthen a creation care team passed nearly unanimously. - Season of Creation—The NCC observes the Season of Creation in September. The Corridor team is planning two District-wide events, and now is the time to start making plans in your local church to participate.
- Bible Study-We’re looking for one or two potential host churches in each county for a District-wide Bible studyusing “Climate Justice: A Call to Hope and Action” by Rev. Pat Watkins. - Worship Service – Mt. Sylvan UMC will be hosting a district-wide worship service at a time and date TBD. Contact Thomas Givens at tgivens@ieee.org if you would like to participate.
- Season of Creation planning workshop – July 29, 9am-12pm at the Conference Building in Garner. Rev. - Advocacy Training – Rev. Keith Sexton has developed a 3-part process to prepare creation care advocates for a Zoom meeting in August or September with key US House legislative aides to express environmental concerns from the church’s perspective. Everyone is welcome to help with the research and join the Zoom in a show of solidarity. Contact Keith at ksexton@nccumc.org for details on how to participate. - Linking churches to existing creation care projects—The Corridor Creation Care Team needs help identifying churches that already have something going on like styrofoam recycling, compost collection, a garden, or any project that smaller churches can be invited to join. Once a few sites are identified, we will advertise them and encourage networking among surrounding churches.
- Disaster Mission Training at Lake Junaluska– September 22-24 Learn to lead mission trips where participants learn about community culture, economy, and ecology as well as doing repair work.
