About Children’s Home Society
Children’s Home Society has been serving children and families for more than a century. Founded in 1902, CHS has placed more than 15,000 children into loving, adoptive homes. While CHS is perhaps best known for our work related to foster care and adoption, we are much more than a placement agency. Our mission to promote the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family. In our programs, CHS serves well over 20,000 clients each year, with a statewide staff and offices in 10 cities across North Carolina. There are families across the state that desperately needs our care, experience, and unwavering dedication to helping children thrive. Our work is focused on making measurable differences in the lives of our children and families.
About The Presentation
Foster care and adoption are in a state of crisis. Children in foster care has been growing at an alarming rate with a shortage of permanent, safe, and loving homes for adoptable children. In North Carolina, the number of children in foster care increased every month in 2016 compared to the corresponding month in 2015, with over 2,400 children eligible for adoption. Today, there are about 11,500 children in foster care, an increase of more than 25% in the last five years. That is a trend we would very much like to reverse. In efforts to reverse this trend once a month (Oct-Nov-Dec) CHS will hold Informational Meetings at Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse in Durham, NC to inform the community of the immense need for foster and adoptive families. The meetings are open to the public and free to attend. Topics covered will be the difference between Foster Care and Adoption, ‘How To Become A Foster Parent/Family or Adopt’, and various services CHS provides to support all who are interested in becoming licensed through our agency.
