Life Around the Table nourishes community around the table.
At Life Around the Table, we nurture habits and practices which lead to the well-being God desires for us and for all of creation.
We invite everyone to consider how eating together faithfully can transform our lives and the life of our communities.
We offer the following programs:
1. Sabbath Life
An invitation to clergy and ministry professionals to embody a way of life grounded in the spiritual disciplines of work, eating together, silence, and learning in community. Participants gather at a local farm one day a month for 10 months of the year (February-November). Click here for more information or to register.
2. Eating Together Faithfully, a Framework for Conversation (ETF) is an eight-session small group resource that explores what it means to eat daily bread as disciples of Jesus Christ. ETF focuses on the biblical narrative and the ways Jesus invites us to share Eucharist – literally “thanksgiving” – at his table and our tables.
The core of the curriculum develops the idea that “food can laugh.” Food that LAUGHS is Local, Affordable, Uncomplicated, Good Healthy, and Seasonal. We explore the meaning of this acronym both theologically and in practice. We believe that this acronym expresses the delight God desires us to discover when we eat and invite others to eat. When we eat with God’s intention for all creation in mind, we nourish community around the table. And when we eat with God’s wisdom, all creation flourishes.
How can you and your community participate in Eating Together Faithfully?
- Plan to become an Eating Together Faithfully Community of Practice in 2019. Seventeen communities are field-testing our ETF small group resource this year and we will be ready to train twenty new communities next Spring. More information coming this Fall!
- Pray with us as we work on a Regional Eating Together Faithfully Retreat at Lake Junaluska in March 2020. We’re putting together a Design Team now and we are dreaming of the possibilities as we gather to nourish community around the table and nurture the habits and practices which lead to the well-being God desires for us and for all of creation.
3. Preaching, Teaching, and Consulting
Life Around the Table works with congregations, non-profits, and community organizations to explore new and creative ways to eat healthy, good, local food together. LATT staff are available for teaching, preaching, retreats, and consulting for those interested in keeping their community’s understanding of connections between food and faith.
